Based on 30 years of success, the "Musikwochen Millstatt" is hosting La Guitarra esencial as an important and novel step towards the proliferation of guitar music in Carinthia.

The festival includes concerts by renowned international and local soloists and ensembles, as well as workshops, master classes and an exhibition of written music. In this way, the Musikwochen Millstatt will present to you the many fascinating variations to be found in guitar music.

You will discover a perfect blend of both traditional classic and innovative new music. Under the artistic direction of Austrian solo-guitarist Julia Malischnig, a bridge has been built between formality and freedom, under which creativity will flow unimpeded.

La Guitarra esencial invites its visitors inside the unlimited spectrum of contemporary guitar music in an atmosphere of artistic freedom and expression. The program will range from classical guitar to popular, south American rhythms, and from the experimental freedom of Jazz to the multicolored variety of folk and world.

Musikwochen Millstatt

Founded by o.Univ.-Prof. Dr. Franz Nikolasch the Musikwochen Millstatt provide a solid basis for various cultural activities in Millstatt. Today the festival will look back on thirty successful years.
The Musikwochen Millstatt take place in the months between May and October in the monastery of Millstatt. Each year the festival offers a thrilling and enticing program ranging from solo concerts and chamber music to orchestra concerts and choral performances. The Musikwochen Millstatt is one of the most renowned cultural events in Austria.









Julia Malischnig

Julia Malischnig is the initiator and artistic director of the international guitar festival La Guitarra esencial. She is active both as an artist and instructor involved in master classes and international workshops. Julia Malischnig has composed a number of original pieces and internationally performs a wide variety of music ranging from classical to World Music and Jazz.
She has won several awards and received a number of stipends and grants. Since 2009/10 she is head of department of string instruments at the OÖ Landesmusikschulwerk.
